One of the primary reasons the PMP qualification is so different from any other project management courses is that experience in project management is a requirement before taking the exam. The PMI states that every PMP student needs to have at least 5-years’ experience in leading projects (if you have a degree then you only need 3-years’ experience), before taking the PMP exam.
The reason for this is to ensure that only the most experienced project managers can have this certification, making it a valuable qualification to have on your CV. After completing the exam, you will be eligible to have the letters PMP after your name.
As well as this, PMI has many communities around the world, called chapters, whose primary goal is to improve project management. These communities will help you with project delivery, templates, and once you succeed in the exam, the chapters can help you gain the 60 professional development units (PDUs) that are needed for you to maintain your PMP credentials.
